ORGANISATION CAPACITY STATEMENT

Our areas of operation constitute a challenging and fragile environment where communities remain in constant need of life-saving healthcare support and humanitarian assistance. Many families in Somaliland face limited access to specialized medical care, especially children suffering from congenital and rheumatic heart diseases. The humanitarian demands and difficult operating environment require organizations to continuously adapt, strengthen institutional systems, and improve service delivery mechanisms. Regular capacity assessments, monitoring, and evaluation processes enable the  One Heart One World Association (OHOWA) to ensure quality programming, accountability, and effective support for vulnerable children and families.

The following are highlights of the key institutional capacities and strengths of OHOWA.

Operational and Logistical Capacity

OHOWA has the mandate to operate across Somaliland and surrounding regions to support children living with congenital heart defects and other critical health conditions. In recognition of the importance of effective coordination and service delivery, OHOWA has established its coordination office in Hargeisa, Somaliland, where activities related to case management, community mobilization, awareness campaigns, and humanitarian outreach are coordinated.

The organization is equipped with essential operational tools including computers, internet connectivity, communication systems, and a dedicated volunteer network that supports outreach activities, beneficiary registration, awareness campaigns, and emergency coordination. OHOWA also works closely with hospitals, medical professionals, and international humanitarian partners to facilitate referrals and treatment opportunities for children requiring urgent medical intervention abroad.

Dedication to Knowledge Management and Lessons Learned

OHOWA is committed to organizational learning, knowledge management, and continuous improvement to strengthen program quality and impact. The organization regularly documents lessons learned, success stories, challenges, and best practices to improve future interventions and strategies.

OHOWA integrates awareness, advocacy, and community education into its programming, particularly through campaigns focused on congenital heart disease and rheumatic heart disease prevention. The organization applies participatory approaches in project planning and implementation while ensuring inclusivity, accountability, and gender sensitivity.

OHOWA has monitoring and evaluation mechanisms that support project tracking, beneficiary follow-up, and impact assessment throughout the project cycle. These systems help ensure transparency, effective resource utilization, and improved outcomes for vulnerable children and communities.

Human Resource Capacity

OHOWA has a dedicated team of professional staff members, volunteers, and healthcare advocates who support the organization’s operations and programs. The organization works with experienced personnel across administration, project coordination, communications, volunteer management, community mobilization, and beneficiary support services.

OHOWA also collaborates with local and international medical professionals, humanitarian partners, and volunteers to strengthen its service delivery and outreach activities. The organization prioritizes capacity strengthening and continuous learning to ensure staff and volunteers are equipped with the necessary skills to effectively serve vulnerable communities.

With its growing institutional capacity and strong volunteer network, OHOWA is able to rapidly mobilize teams and respond to urgent healthcare and humanitarian needs affecting children and vulnerable families.

Coordination with Other Stakeholders

OHOWA is committed to strengthening partnerships and coordination to maximize the impact of humanitarian and healthcare interventions. The organization works collaboratively with hospitals, medical specialists, international charities, humanitarian organizations, local NGOs, community-based organizations, volunteers, and relevant government ministries.

OHOWA also engages with stakeholders in the health, education, protection, and humanitarian sectors to improve referral systems, awareness initiatives, medical outreach, and access to specialized healthcare services for children with congenital heart diseases.

Through strategic partnerships and collaboration, OHOWA continues to advocate for improved healthcare access, medical support, training opportunities, and awareness programs that benefit vulnerable children and underserved communities in Somaliland.
