Amrita Hospital Celebrates Somali Children’s Successful Heart Surgeries and Honours OHOWA Program Manager

India – Amrita Hospital proudly hosted a special celebration to honour Somali children who successfully underwent life-saving heart surgery through the collaborative efforts of One Heart One World Association (OHOWA), Rotary partners, and Amrita Hospital.
The event marked an important milestone in the recovery journey of these brave young patients, celebrating their resilience, renewed health, and the hope of a brighter future. Seeing these children smiling, playing, and embracing life again was a powerful reminder of the impact that compassionate healthcare and international partnership can achieve.
A highlight of the celebration was the presentation of the Outstanding Service Award by Rotary India to Bahja Osman Yasin, OHOWA's Program Manager and Patient Advocacy Officer. The award recognized her exceptional dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to supporting children and their families throughout their medical journey.
For the past four months, Bahja has been based at Amrita Hospital, working closely with patients from Somaliland and Somalia. She has provided continuous guidance, advocacy, emotional support, and coordination, ensuring that every child and family received the care, information, and assistance they needed during one of the most challenging periods of their lives. Her professionalism, kindness, and tireless commitment have played a vital role in the success of this life-saving programme.
This remarkable achievement would not have been possible without the invaluable support of our partners, the highly skilled surgeons, cardiologists, doctors, nurses, hospital staff, volunteers, donors, and the families who placed their trust in this mission. Their expertise, generosity, and dedication have given these children the opportunity to live healthier and brighter lives.
