COMMUNITY HEALTH aWARENESS INITIATIVES
At ONE HEART ONE WORLD ASSOCIATION (OHOWA), We believe that saving children's hearts begins with empowering communities through knowledge. Our community awareness initiatives focus on educating families, schools, and healthcare workers about congenital and rheumatic heart diseases, their early warning signs, and the importance of timely medical care. Through outreach campaigns, health talks, school based programs, and distribution simple pictorial guides, we ensure that even the most vulnerable communities have access to life saving information. By raising awareness and promoting prevention, OHOWA is building a healthier future for children across Somaliland and Somalia
SCHOOL-BASED HEART AWARENESS PROGRAM
The School-Based Heart Awareness Program is a community initiative led by One Heart One World Association(OHOWA) to promote early heart health education among children and school communities in Somaliland. Through visits to schools such as Alkhair Schools, OHOWA provides engaging and age-appropriate sessions that teach students the basics of heart health and the importance of recognising early signs of congenital and rheumatic heart diseases.
This project uses interactive learning tools, including colouring books, simple visual materials, and child-friendly discussions, to ensure the health messages are accessible and memorable. Teachers and school staff are also involved to help strengthen awareness and encourage long-term support for children who may show symptoms of heart conditions.
By building a culture of prevention and early knowledge within schools, this program aims to reduce delayed diagnosis, empower children and families with life-saving information, and create healthier futures for the next generation.

MATERNAL & CHILD HEALTH COMMUNITY OUTREACH
The Maternal & Child Health Community Outreach Program is an initiative by One Heart One World Association (OHOWA) designed to strengthen early detection and community support for paediatric heart conditions in Somaliland and Somalia. Through visits to Maternal and Child Health centers, OHOWA works directly with mothers, infants, and caregivers to raise awareness about CHD and RHD and their impact on child development.
This project focuses on providing practical guidance on recognising warning signs, understanding basic heart disease management, and ensuring timely referral to appropriate medical services. In addition, OHOWA delivers supportive interventions such as nutrition therapy, proper infant feeding education, and counselling for families, especially those with limited access to health information.
To enhance understanding in communities with low literacy, the program also distributes Simple pictorial health guides that mothers can use at home. By empowering caregivers with knowledge and support, this outreach initiative aims to reduce delays in diagnosis, improve child health outcomes, and build stronger community-based care for vulnerable children.
